Dr Brieley Cutting Teaching Studio
Dr Brieley Cutting teaches a carefully selected Studio of students who are dedicated to developing their skills, from school-aged students studying for AMEB exams to tertiary and professional levels. Brieley has been based in Sydney since 2020 and currently teaches from her Home Studio on Ross St in Forest Lodge and Hayes St Studio in Neutral Bay.
One-to-one lessons are held on a grand piano, regular Studio Newsletters provide updates and information, and Student Concerts are held each year. Aspects of technique, sound production and style are central to Brieley's teaching, alongside encouragement to develop individual musicianship and career pathways.
Previous experiences include successfully guiding students through AMEB piano practical exams for over 20 years, working as permanent part-time Lecturer in Classical Piano at the Australian Institute of Music for over 4 years, being invited to adjudicate for the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and Sydney Eisteddfod, working as examiner and accompanist at the University of Queensland School of Music, assisting as Lecturer at the University of New England (NSW), accepting the invitation to be Head of Piano at the New England regional Conservatorium (Armidale, NSW), being Piano Teacher at St Joseph's College (Gregory Terrace) in Brisbane for several years, and delivering Masterclasses from the QLD Gold Coast to regional NSW conservatories and Sydney.
Brieley's students have graduated with bachelor and masters degrees, attained AMEB Diplomas, and been prizewinners in piano competitions and eisteddfods. Her students regularly receive distinctions and high distinctions for their practical examinations.
Brieley holds Bachelor (First Class Honours) and Masters Degrees in Performance from the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane, studying with Oleg Stepanov and Natasha Vlassenko. Brieley has also studied for four years in the Performance Program at the Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne with Frank Wibaut, Timothy Young and Rita Reichman. She was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance (Distinction) from the Royal College of Music in London studying with Ruth Nye, these studies made possible with a David Paul Landa Memorial Scholarship for Pianists and support from the Australian Music Foundation and Tait Memorial Trust. Her doctoral studies, completed in 2016 at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in Brisbane, were supervised primarily by Stephen Emmerson. Brieley continued her studies in London, Amsterdam and New York as a Fellow of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, and has also studied with Pamela Page and Max Olding.
Brieley is a Full Member of the Music Teachers' Association of New South Wales and a Steinway Educational Partner.
