Dr Brieley Cutting welcomes students to her studio who have a genuine interest in learning. In lessons, Brieley works to encourage her students to be the best they can be in consideration of their talents and lifestyles, and excellence is promoted. Aspects of technique and style are priorities, alongside how to create notes into music unique to each player. She advocates the appreciation of music in general, knowledge of music theory, and encourages discussion of music careers and the music industry as part of preparing students for lives as professional musicians.

Brieley has been fortunate to have had her piano technique, music knowledge, and performance style shaped and influenced from intensive tuition with various renowned pedagogues. In her own studio, she draws on this experience. Influence is felt from her time with Pamela Page and Max Olding (considered by many to be classical music royalty in Australia), from studying for seven years with Oleg Stepanov and Natasha Vlassenko (graduates and teachers of the Moscow Conservatory), and from studying with Timothy Young (graduate of the Nicolò Paganini Conservatorium in Italy), Rita Reichmann (student of Rudolf Serkin at the Curtis Institute), and Ruth Nye (student of Claudio Arrau). Brieley also draws on her extensive experience as a concert performer and from her many years of study as an academic.

Brieley's students have regularly received distinctions and high distinctions in performance exams and she has successfully guided teenage students to achieve their Associate in Music Diploma (AMusA) from the Australian Music Examinations Board. Her students have been recipients of scholarships and successful in competitions and eisteddfods, including the Sydney Eisteddfod.

Dr Brieley Cutting currently teaches in the undergraduate and graduate programs at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM) in Sydney. As well, she is teacher to selected adult and young students in the AIM Open Program, and teaches a small studio of private students from her own studio in Glebe.
