Ambient Delights

“We have been looking to work on a project together for some time. Ultimately, we were inspired by wanting to include double bass, so we programmed Schubert’s ‘Trout’ Piano Quintet - one of the most well known and loved works of chamber music. The addition of brand new music from Mark is building on the joy DeClassified Music had of producing and performing his fabulous ‘Cyborg Salon’ in the 2023 Sydney Fringe Festival, our performance being nominated for the festival’s Best in Music category.”

Franz Schubert’s Piano Quintet in A major takes it’s nickname from the integration of the vibe and material from one of Schubert’s own art songs, Die Forelle (The Trout). It was conceived in 1819 when Schubert was 22 years old and on holiday in the countryside of Austria at a place he described as "inconceivably beautiful”. Reflecting a lightness and carefreeness, the sound world of this Quintet conjures up sounds of running water and the wriggling of a trout, with beautiful transparency of texture and infectious melodies.
Mark Oliveiro’s Electronic Suite for piano quartet with live generative electronics will receive its world premiere at this concert. A three-movement journey, this work blurs the line between acoustic intimacy and digital intervention, exploring how acoustic and electronic voices can collide, diverge and ultimately converge - transforming contrast into coherence.

Daniel's abilities on the violin are a result of training with some of the world’s most celebrated violinists, and a musical lineage that extends to Joseph Joachim and Antonin DvoÅ™ák. Hailing from Geelong, he commenced his studies in Sydney with Goetz Richter and Alexandru Todicescu before moving to Brisbane to study with Spiros Rantos. He won a full scholarship to further his studies in Tasmania with Edwin Paling, participating in masterclasses with Jan Sedivka, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Ning Feng, Jennifer Pike, and Antje Weithaas. Her cello studies began in Ethiopia where her family lived until 1994, but soon after moving back to Australia, she began lessons with Anthea Scott-Mitchell at the Newcastle Conservatorium. On a cello scholarship from the age of 13, Eleanor quickly began to build up performance experience in a wide variety of settings; from solo recitals, chamber music, and orchestral playing through to recording sessions and corporate events. This has continued in her professional life, offering her opportunities to travel and collaborate with excellent musicians all over the world. Now based in Sydney, Eleanor frequently performs with the Opera Australia Orchestra, and teaches cello and chamber music at Cranbrook School.
Andrew Meisel - Double Bass
Andrew Meisel holds the position of Associate Principal Double Bass in the Opera Australia Orchestra. From the age of fifteen Andrew played bass in school orchestras, jazz ensembles and big bands. In 1993, in his first year of university at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, he successfully auditioned for the position of tutti Double Bass with the Orchestra. Andrew studied in Sydney with Brett Berthold, in London with Thomas Martin, in New York with Timothy Cobb and Boston under Ed Barker. Andrew completed a Diploma of Music, majoring in performance, at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Luke Spicer - Viola

He has collaborated with leading artists including Brett Dean, Kees Boersma, Helena Rathbone, and Marshall Maguire. Luke studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Alex Todicescu and Roger Benedict, and has performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. As a conductor, he has led performances with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and Canberra Symphony Orchestra.
Mark Oliveiro - Composer/Live Electronics
Mark Oliveiro is an Australian composer-researcher, performer, and educator working at the intersection of experimental electronics, post-glitch aesthetics, and analog synthesis. His practice couples generative systems with creative agency, integrating field recordings, live processing, and multimedia congruency. His research draws on digital autoethnography to situate composition as critical, practice-led inquiry. Oliveiro serves as President of the Australasian Computer Music Association and lectures at the Australian Institute of Music, embedding emerging technologies into pedagogy. His music has been performed by the Decibel Ensemble and collaborators across new-music, EDM, and media-art contexts. He has received commissions from Seamus, the Art Music Fund, and independent performers, creating works that span multimedia chamber music, site-responsive environmental pieces, and algorithmic systems employing Euclidean rhythms and stochastic textures. Across concert, installation, and studio settings, Oliveiro’s projects explore the intersections of culture, technology, and place through textured sound.
