Film Music to start 2025

I have always enjoyed taking on different and diverse musical projects. In the second week of January, I was invited to perform the piano part for George Ellis' new music for the film 'The Traveller' being directed by Bruce Beresford.

Recorded at Trackdown in the Entertainment Quarter at Moore Park, it was fun to be part of something like this, especially as it was so extremely well organised and tightly planned. George Ellis conducted his score, and Bruce Beresford observed from the control room.

As the sole pianist, I had my own booth, separated from the strings and woodwinds (brass and percussion were being recorded separately, later in the day). I could see the orchestra and conductor in the distance through my window, and hear the clicktrack, orchestral music and conductor's instructions through headphones. I could also look across at the control room, and if I casually leant back in my chair, I was able to take a peak at the filmed images to which the music was being matched with.

A few hours of this was a very agreeable way to launch into 2025 music making.
